
5% Monitors effectiveness of Regional landscape architecture practices by: developing and carrying out monitoring programs interpreting data and analyzing results - recommending corrective action and/or new approaches communicating the above to the Environmental Office. 20% Supervises and/or assists in the supervision of consultant performance of appropriate aspects of landscape architecture work outlined in Sections 3.3 and 3.4 (above) by: -for all consultant assignments involving landscape architecture work: preparing terms of reference, reviewing/evaluating proposals, monitoring consultant work progress, providing advice and guidance to consultants, reviewing consultant reports, and either preparing or providing input to the consultant appraisal report - for stand-alone landscape architecture consultant work: obtaining approval for a consultant assignment, recommending consultant selection, preparing legal agreements, establishing and maintaining accounting files, ensuring compliance with approved dollar limits, and conveying information relating to payments - monitoring fee for service costs.

representing the Ministry at meetings with external agencies, public, municipal and regional governments, and providing presentations regarding transportation landscape architecture issues.

Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Environmental Unit, the Landscape Architect: 10% Provides authoritative advice, interpretations and guidance on a matrix basis to Regional and District management and staff regarding landscape architecture by: -developing and maintaining thorough and up-to-date knowledge on plant material growth requirements, its response to environmental Stress, its utilization for multi-factor environmental mitigation1 and its utilization for aesthetic enhancement - participating on Ministry working groups and committees as the Regional landscape architect -disseminating and explaining current landscape architecture requirements, ministry policies and guidelines ensuring consistency with directly related disciplines providing external agencies and the Environmental Office with necessary information - preparing landscape architecture guidelines and policies for use in Central Region -ensuring that landscape architecture requirements are properly addressed in the Region advising of consequences of non-compliance -developing the structure and content requirement for relevant Regional data bases resolving extemporaneous landscape architecture issues 10% Conducts field and plan/report overview/appraisal investigations to determine where landscape architecture services are required, the level of detail and effort necessary, and the approach for providing such services (in-house versus consultant) 15% Plans, undertakes, and reports project-specific field investigations, including: field inventory and assessment of existing woody vegetation on, and adjacent to, existing and proposed transportation facility land - field inventory and assessment of aesthetic opportunities and problems, both from and towards existing and proposed transportation facilities 30% Prepares and produces landscape plans, and provides other project-specific landscape architecture services by: providing recommendations regarding alignment, grading, and drainage, in support of vegetation preservation and landscape plan preparation - working with other disciplines to develop any landscape architecture component of multi-factor environmental mitigation - developing concept landscape plans, with supporting perspective drawings and sketches as necessary, and preparing preliminary cost estimates for same - developing detailed landscape plans, specifications, and cost estimates for implementation by contract or ministry forces.

To provide a landscape architectural design, consultative and investigational service as an integral component of the ministrys highway planning, design and construction program.
